Do you know how many professional learning sessions I’ve attended, only to walk away with NOTHING specific to my instruction as a special educator?

Like you, I don’t take my role as an educator lightly. I understand the importance of leveraging brilliance in all learners, especially those with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Many misconceptions, stigmas, and false narratives about SpED are diminishing the potential of diverse learners.

And if we’re being honest, most teachers, administrators, and parents struggle to comprehend the full breadth of special education and Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and how to use them to meet students’ needs.

After teaching in the K-12 and higher education space for 10+ years, it became clear that I had to be the change I wanted to see. Teachers were on life support, struggling to advocate for their students due to lack of support, and school districts were taking massive hits in their retention rates. Most importantly, the diverse learners — or scholars as I affectionately call them — were not receiving personalized assistance to achieve their academic and behavioral goals.

These are all the reasons Coach in a Pocket exists.

I’ve put in the work to become “highly qualified,” and now, I’m reaching back and pulling up my fellow educators. I combine all my experiences as a former Teacher of the Deaf, special education teacher leader, a Multi-Tiered System of Support K-12 Project Facilitator within the Language and Literacy Department, and my current role as a Project Director of Special Education Technology to open eyes and change mindsets around special education.

Additionally, I leverage the specialized training from my BA in English, MS in Deaf Education, and Doctorate in Education with an emphasis on Special Education Leadership to deliver expert coaching and consulting services to SpED teachers and school leaders.

In short, I have walked in your shoes and heard the conversations from burnt-out educators. I see you.

From there, you’d sign up using the calendar for the group coaching session.

＋How does the 1:1 coaching work?
Simply complete a form that helps SpED Coaches curate a targeted 1:1 coaching session and resources for you. After form completion, you would schedule your 1:1 session meeting with the SpED Coach and unpack your challenge together. You will walk away with an action plan that we’ll reference in subsequent sessions.
